We are in 1965. The director of the Nouvelle vague ends his filming in Hyères, started eight weeks earlier. At the center of the plot, there is the companion of the director Jean-Luc Godard, Anna Karina and the young first who bursts the screen Jean-Paul Belmondo which he has already put in images in Breathless five years earlier.
Pierrot le fou is a visionary film, a visual masterpiece filled with artistic references. Long before House of Cards, Godard – who is now 90 years old – uses an astonishing staging where the actors speak directly to the camera.
Shot in eight weeks, Pierrot le fou highlights a solar, rebellious Jean-Paul Belmondo. The 32-year-old actor will shoot near the port of Ayguade, on the railway track, at the Bergerie bowling in Hyères, on the port of Niel on the Giens peninsula, but also in the bay of Tamaris, in Toulon.
The team was looking for a desert island for the explosive adventures of Ferdinand Griffon (Belmondo) alias Pierrot le fou and Marianne (Karina), they found a paradisiacal Hyères golden island.
On Porquerolles, mythical scenes will be immortalized, including the famous dialogue “I’m bored, I don’t know what to do“and the song”My line of luck“, shared with the actress of Danish origin Anna Karina. The latter died on December 14, 2019, had returned a few months before her disappearance to the location of the filming that had marked her life.
