New car registrations decline in January

The circulation of new cars fell sharply in January, according to Auto-Suisse statistics released on Tuesday. The share of alternative propulsion continued to soar, particularly in terms of hybrid engines.
Registrations fell overall by 10.2% over a year to 18,788 units, noted the apex of the sector in a press release.
The proportion of diesel vehicles continued to decline, with a 6.4 percentage point drop to 25.6% in market share across the fleet. However, that of alternative propulsion more than doubled to 19.3%, benefiting in particular from a 5.3% to 12.2% jump in the share of hybrid electric vehicles.
Pure electric cars also continued to advance, doubling their market share in January to 4.1%.
