An inexpensive 15.6-inch USB-C screen from Acer

The USB-C monitor range continues to grow, this time with a new 15.6-inch Acer model. The technical sheet of PM1 will not turn heads: it is a 1920 x 1080 definition IPS LCD screen with a maximum luminance of 250 nits, a response time of 15 ms, a refresh rate of 60 Hz as well as an anti-reflective coating. The 6-bit panel will display only 262,000 colors.

The advantage of this monitor is that it can draw its juice from a MacBook equipped with USB-C, at the cost of a battery life that will melt faster than usual (the PM1 requires 12 watts). In addition to its USB-C 3.1 port, the Acer display also includes a micro-USB port for connection to the mains. At the back is a kickstand to hold the monitor in place.

This screen, which can be used as a backup monitor in the office or in a bedroom, has one advantage: its price. Acer offers it for $ 180, and we can afford it at 179 € on Amazon, which puts it not too badly in this segment. Be careful, the Amazon price seems to go up quite quickly.

In the same genre, we tested some Asus screens some time ago that offer more or less the same benefits; two of them have their own batteries, so you don’t have to squeeze the juice out of the MacBook. But you have to put a hundred extra euros (read: Asus ZenScreen MB16: test of three USB-C screens for MacBook and iPad).
