NASA Astronauts Capture Total Solar Eclipse from Outer Space: Rare Views of Moon’s Shadow on Earth

Jakarta

United States Space Agency Astronaut (NASA) immortalize the moment Total Solar Eclipse from outer space. The shadow of the Moon on Earth is clearly visible, which darkens parts of the US during the day.

Expedition 71 crew members on duty aboard the Space Station (ISS), namely Matthew Dominick and Jeanette Epps photographed and recorded the shadow of the process of the Moon’s disk covering the Sun.

The shadow of the Moon on Earth or the round umbra appears to darken the US area. For your information, the path of the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8 2024 will be mostly in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

These two NASA astronauts captured the solar eclipse through a window in the ISS dome, namely the orbital outpost’s ‘window to the world’. Meanwhile, the ISS orbits 260 miles above southeastern Canada when the Moon’s umbra moves from the state of New York (US) to Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada).

The space station experienced approximately 90% totality during its flyover period. Views of the solar eclipse itself, the Moon orbiting directly between the sun and Earth, can only be accessed through a pair of windows on a segment of the Roscosmos space station that may be inaccessible due to cargo limitations.

Total Solar Eclipse This was indeed greeted with great fanfare in North America because it was a very rare event. Not to mention that apart from the eclipse, there are other amazing views of the sky.

“During a total eclipse, as the sky darkens, you will see the brightest planet Venus appear on one side of the Sun. On the other side of the Sun, you will find the second brightest planet, Jupiter. And if Comet Pons-Brooks is bright enough, you will “sees it between Jupiter and the Sun, but closer to Jupiter,” said Earth Sky.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow on the planet’s surface. For those in the path of totality, the Moon appeared to be almost the same size as the Sun, blocking it completely for several minutes. So, the Devil’s Comet may be barely visible to the naked eye, or it may be more obvious using binoculars.
