“Apple wants to get rid of Touch Bar in future MacBook Pros” | NOW

Apple would like to remove the Touch Bar, the touch-sensitive strip with keys, from a new version of the MacBook Pro. The laptops also need to be recharged with a MagSafe cable, a source familiar with the company’s plans reports Friday Bloomberg.

According to the news agency, Apple wants to release two new MacBook Pros this year with screens of 14 and 16 inches. The Touch Bar introduced in 2016 would not return to these models. Instead, there will be another row of physical keys.

Apple would also like to revert to charging with a MagSafe cable, which was used until 2016. MacBooks now charge via a USB-C connection, but the company would like to get rid of that, according to the news agency.

The old MagSafe ports have a magnetic connection. This can be useful if, for example, a user gets stuck behind the charging cord. In most cases, the cord then falls on the floor and not the laptop. USB-C does not have a magnetic connection.

Finally, the laptops would also get a new version of Apple’s own M1 chip, introduced last year. This would make the laptops even faster, according to the news agency.
