MSI Motherboard Users Face BSOD Error with Windows 11 Update KB5029351: Microsoft Investigating

Problems with updating Windows operating systems are not new. From time to time there are reports of troubles that plague their users. Another example of this type is hotfix KB5029351, which was released on August 22. The latest problem does not prevent the use of the computer, but it causes a serious error during the update process. Applies to users of some MSI motherboards.

Users of MSI motherboards with Z690 and Z790 chipsets with the latest BIOS version are experiencing a BSOD error when trying to install the Windows 11 update KB5029351. Microsoft is investigating.

Can Windows 11 run on a device with less than 200 MB of RAM? It turns out that yes

Users of some MSI motherboards experience a BSOD error when restarting the computer while installing the latest patch. After several consecutive automatic restarts, the previous version of the system is restored. The problem is therefore of a relatively serious nature, although it is somewhat reassuring that after the automatic rollback to the previous version of the system everything works fine. According to MSI, the occurrence of the error is closely related to the latest BIOS updates, which add the Raptor Lake-S Refresh family to the list of supported processors. This is especially true for motherboards with the Z690 and Z790 chipsets.

Microsoft is also investigating the matter. The fatal fix has already been withdrawn from Windows Update, but only for the affected systems. Others still have access to it. KB5029351 is an update available as part of the so-called “preview”. This means that it is not automatically installed on most systems. The desire to upload it must be confirmed in Windows Update. Typically, these types of fixes are included in the next proper system update in the following month. It remains to be hoped that by then Microsoft will deal with the problems.
