Octar, who is currently 64 years old, is released at the age of 1139 and is effectively sentenced to life if he ends his sentence.
According to The Guardian, an anonymous victim of sexual assault testified in court that Octar consistently sexually abused women. The victim has been sexually abused after joining Octar’s organization at the age of 17, a minor. It also stated that some of the women who were sexually assaulted were forced to take birth control pills.
Octar denied the charges. Although 69,000 contraceptives were found at home, they discovered that they were used for skin diseases and menstrual irregularities. Last month, the court denied the charges, saying, “I have nearly 1,000 girlfriends.” He also argued that “I have a lot of love for women, and love is a human quality and a Muslim quality.”
He was arrested in 2018 by Istanbul police, along with more than 200 other suspects. Among them, 236 defendants were prosecuted and 78 were detained during the trial. It is reported that most suspects have been claiming innocence since they received the first warrant examination in September 2019.
