Microsoft is probably not done with the acquisition of major game developers

Microsoft created a lot of debate, and possibly a dose of concern among many, when they announced theirs giant acquisition of ZeniMax Media recently – a company that includes Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer Bethesda Softworks.

Now, however, it looks like we can expect more, similar acquisitions from Microsoft in the time ahead.

In an interview with the site Cnet (via PC Gamer) says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella that the company will consider acquiring even more gaming companies in the future, and that this is an important part of Microsoft’s investment strategy.

Focuses heavily on content

– The idea behind sitting on content is to reach larger groups, Nadella said, while Xbox CEO Phil Spencer in the same interview emphasized that content is the “fantastic ingredient” in the platform in which the company will continue to invest.

Exactly what this will result in is of course difficult to say, but Microsoft certainly has big enough money bin to fill an even larger space in the gaming industry. In the last financial year the company had a total turnover of 143 billion dollars, and a profit of 53 billion dollars – a solid increase from the previous year.

Xbox Game Studios, which is the name of Microsoft’s gaming division, already owns Minecraft developer Mojang Studios, the well-known role-playing game name Obsidian Entertainment, Forza developer Playground Games and a number of other developers.
