Mexican Actress ‘La Chilindrina’ Announces Retirement from Stage: Last Performances Scheduled

The renowned Mexican actress and singer María Antonieta de las Nieves, better known as ‘La Chilindrina’, announced her retirement from the stage.

In the middle of an interview with the local media El Colombiano, the famous woman revealed that she has scheduled her last performances, either as ‘La Chilindrina’ or with any other character, for these coming months.

María, 73 years old, indicated that when her commitments end she will permanently retire from show business since she wants to take better care of her mental and physical health.

“Yes and I’ll tell you why: I hope it will be a long, quite extensive tour. So if I’m 74 years old, how many more years can I be on stage? I don’t want to give people pity, so ‘My Mother’s Eggs’ is going to be the last thing,” she said.

Currently, the actress is in Colombia due to the play ‘My Mother’s Eggs’ on which she is working and which will premiere in May in eight cities, including Cartagena, Barranquilla, Bogotá and Medellín.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for me to show that I can still play a woman in her sixties. I am giving the same affection with which I made Chilindrina to the mother of ‘My Mother’s Eggs,’” said the actress, referring to her character.

Likewise, she assured that at the end of each performance, she will give her fans the opportunity to take photos with her dressed as “La Chilindrina” to say goodbye to her flagship character.

It should be noted that the Mexican series ‘El Chavo del Ocho’ is one of the most successful television programs in Latin America.

Since its launch as an independent series in 1973, as it was previously a sketch of the program ‘Chespirito’, until the end of the recordings in 1980, the characters of the series enjoyed great popularity, even after the program ended thanks to the broadcasts that were made.

Although the series ended in the 80s due to the departure of some of its characters, re-recordings of its previous episodes began to be made and then it returned to its original format as a sketch on the program Chespirito.
