Melanie case. Young man claims police abuse in protest

“I just wanted to demand justice for all the victims of the police … I didn’t deserve that shitty damage,” claimed Melanie, a 16-year-old who was attacked last Friday by elements of the capital’s police during a demonstration against police abuse.

Through her Facebook profile, the young woman admitted that she was “angry” and therefore threw stones and hit police officers’ shields.

“Do you really think that with my compliment I would have hurt you? They were in uniform, they had helmets and they were giants next to me. What I used as a weapon was a handle that I found pulled because it was the only thing I found, I did not carry any other weapon, ”he said.

He added that his backpack was only carried to store his hood and glasses.

“I didn’t deserve that shitty damage. I am really sad for what they did against me, why they don’t say anything when they also started throwing stones at us and even worse they attacked us ”, he concluded.

They call for a protest

A group of feminists, through social networks, called a demonstration to demand justice for Melanie, a 16-year-old teenager, who was attacked last Friday by security elements during a demonstration against police abuse in Polanco.

The call “Justice for Melanie ACAB”, posted on the Facebook page “to fight together even if we are in quarantine”, however, no group responds for this protest.

In the face of this mobilization, just over 400 police officers guard the headquarters of the Secretary for Citizen Security, located in Liverpool number 137, Colonia Juárez.

The uniformed officers are deployed in the streets of: Liverpool, Genoa, Florence and the Glorieta de Insurgentes.

In Reforma Avenue, the capital authorities covered street furniture for Metrobus Line 7 stations, as well as banks and shops in the area.

At the moment a group of just under 20 women spoke out against police violence and to demand justice for Melanie, as well as the one that lives in Jalisco.

“Enough police violence, enough repression, we demonstrate against this and in favor of equality,” they pointed out.

They were also disappointed at the lack of attention from non-conformists to this call.

In the place, the undersecretary of government, Arturo Medina stressed that the city will continue defending and protecting freedom of expression.

He also said that the authorities are preparing an operation for the possible march that may take place at 14:00 in the Angel of Independence against police abuse.
