The City of Arequipa will receive representatives of the Ministries of Finance of the 21 economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) who will participate in the Meeting of Vice Ministers of Finance (Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting – FCBDM) and related workshops that will take place in this city from Wednesday, February 21 to Saturday, February 24.
This meeting opens the eighteen meetings, which at different levels and topics, will take place throughout the year in the cities of Lima, Arequipa, Urubamba (Cusco), Trujillo and Pucallpa (Ucayali) and will culminate between 10 and 16 November of this year with the APEC Economic Leader’s Week (AELW) in Lima. In addition, it is configured as the first meeting of the Process of Finance Ministers, which, during this year, will be coordinated by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Peru.
During the days prior to the FCBDM (February 21 and 22) technical discussions will be held on sustainable energy transition; carbon pricing measures and other related instruments; and, the financing of hydrometeorological risks. Likewise, during the plenary session on February 23 and 24, the Vice Ministers of Finance will meet to discuss the global and regional economic and financial panorama, as well as the work agenda that Peru has proposed for 2024 in the search for a Asia-Pacific region that is more sustainable, more digital and more resilient.
In this sense, it is expected to establish the guidelines of the Process of Finance Ministers for this year. Subsequently, during the Meeting of Senior Finance Officials, to be held in May in Urubamba from May 23 to 27, efforts will be made to prepare the deliverables that the Finance Ministers will adopt at their meeting between October 1 and 4 in Lima in the Finance Ministerial Meeting (FMM).
APEC is a valuable space that allows member economies to interact on equal terms, but above all it promotes regional economic integration and competitiveness among its members, as it serves as a catalyst for initiatives and an incubator of good practices for the improvement of public policies. through cooperation projects.
It should be noted that, for the global economy and for the region, the 21 APEC economies together represented 62% of world GDP, 48% of global trade and 38% of the planet’s population in 2022.
Peru has been part of APEC since 1998, and this year it will chair this forum for the fourth time, which represents a relevant milestone for Peruvian foreign policy, since it has allowed our economy to consolidate its international projection in the Asia Pacific region, the most innovative, dynamic and fastest growing in the world.
