Judge Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, presiding judge of the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), met with Araceli Azuara, representative of the OAS General Secretariat accredited in the country, and Cristóbal Fernández, deputy head of the Preliminary Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), for municipal elections to be held on February 16 of the current year, of which both are part.
During the work session held in the office of Judge Jáquez Liranzo, the challenges of the electoral process in the Dominican Republic for the TSE were discussed, with emphasis on the prosecution of electoral crimes and crimes as well as the experiences accumulated during the knowledge of the known resources from 2019 to date, which have concluded with the issuance of 448 sentences, issued 156 last year and 292 in the first 19 days of 2020.
In addition, issues related to the powers of the TSE and its role as guarantor of electoral justice were addressed.
