A Metoo wave is sweeping across Cameroon. For several days, a businessman from Douala has been accused of rape, sexual violence, kidnapping and pimping by many Internet users on social networks, reports RFI.
It was a certain Nzui Manto who raised the alarm by denouncing the actions of the jet-setter. Since then, social networks have been taken over by men and women wishing to recount the horrible acts that Hervé Bopda allegedly inflicted on them in many cities across the country such as Yaoundé, Kribi, Limbe and Buea.
In these testimonies, Hervé Bopda is described as a violent man, who would threaten his victims with a gun. In total, Nzui Manto would have received more than 1,000 messages on this subject. According to the first information released by the whistleblower, the jet-setter allegedly raped hundreds of women and kidnapped some of them.
Other personalities denounced
Other victims would have simply disappeared after crossing paths with the suspect, who is none other than the son of billionaire Emmanuel Bopda. Hervé Bopda is, however, not the only person targeted by these testimonies. And for good reason: he is accused of having created a vast pimping network which would include numerous influencers, artists, economic operators and high-ranking Cameroonian law enforcement officials. So many names cited in certain testimonies.
According to our colleagues, the human rights commission of the Cameroon Bar asked the prosecutor of the court of first instance of Yaoundé to take up the case. A group of lawyers also filed a complaint against Hervé Bopda, who counterattacked by filing a complaint for defamation against the whistleblowers.
