MANZANILLO – Roberto Santana responds to Vinicito; says RD-China cooperation cannot be politicized

Santo Domingo, RD.

The president of the Dominican-China Chamber of Commerce, Roberto Santana, said that any attempt to politicize cooperation between China and the Dominican Republic is “damaging to the cooperation of Dominican sovereignty,” including hindering the progress of possible relevant commercial projects. “

This in response to the declarations of the senator candidate for the National District of the Together We Electoral Coalition, Vinicio Castillo Semán, who called the statement of the Chinese ambassador to the country, Zhang Run, interference in which he suggests that the Dominican State bid the Port of Manzanillo in Montecristi.

Roberto Santana, said that Chinese companies have participated in tenders in the country for more than 10 years, so it is strange that “it is indicated as interference in Dominican affairs, a possible Chinese participation if in the future there is a tender for development from the port of Manzanillo, or other relevant project ”.

He argued that the port of Manzanillo has tried to develop for more than 70 years but that it has not had the solidarity hand of other countries for that purpose.

“Our Chamber openly supports and diligently, because it benefits Dominican companies, our economy and the whole society, that between China and our country a mutually beneficial and transparent cooperation is carried out, on the basis of respecting the good neighborhood with friendly countries, local laws and international practices to achieve a win-win result, ”he said.

Similarly, he indicated that the People’s Republic of China insists on managing bilateral relations on the basis of the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, as well as not accepting that others try to involve it in such internal affairs. .

“Although currently the Port of Manzanillo is not on the bilateral agenda between China and the Dominican Republic, it is known that Chinese companies have extensive and proven experience and capacity in the construction of infrastructure on all continents, so, if in the future will present such a development project and they are invited, our Chamber supports the participation of these Chinese companies ”, concludes Roberto Santana.
