His unwanted – possibly dangerous – caresses sparked police investigations: Because a man has shown a wrong sense of sensual closeness in the midst of the Corona crisis, the police are now looking for him. The man is said to have given “corona hugs” to customers in a supermarket in the US state of Massachusetts.

First the hug, then the shock

Springfield city officials were told by customers that the suspect reached out to a customer at a Walmart around 7:10 p.m. on Saturday. The stranger allegedly hugged a man and then told him he had COVID-19.

The wanted to the customer: “I’m just giving you a COVID hug. Now you have COVID.” The embraced is a cancer survivor and did not know the culprit, police said in a statement. Now he is worried about his own well-being.

The troublemaker laughed at his victims after the hug and ran away, said the witness. According to the police, however, this was not an isolated incident: He is said to have repeatedly scared different customers with the same scam.
