Surveillance footage indicates that two persons of interest were observed on 8th Avenue shortly before the incident. They briefly interacted with two women at a store before entering 584 8th Avenue. The video later shows these individuals, along with a group of about nine other people, leaving the building.

According to researchers, their movement patterns and distinctive clothing have been detailed for further investigation.

The victim, a resident of Eastchester Gardens, has a notable criminal history, including 27 arrests. Her history also includes previous encounters with mental health interventions.
