M 4.1 aftershock in Cianjur, resident-refugees run for safety

Earthquake Aftershocks of magnitude (M) of 4.1 shook Cianjur, West Java. Residents, especially those in evacuation shelters, scrambled for their lives.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake occurred at 0144 WIB on Friday (25/11/2022). The earthquake coordinates were at 6.89 south and 107.05 east longitude or 12 kilometers southwest of Cianjur regency with a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt in the area of ​​Cugenang District, Cianjur. Several areas in Cianjur Regency, including urban areas, also felt the vibrations of the earthquake.

According to detikcom’s monitoring, refugees in Gasol village, Cugenang district, who were sleeping, immediately rushed out of the evacuation tents after the earthquake. The displaced people are seen crowding in the open field up to the road to avoid the collapse of buildings due to the earthquake.

“First I felt the shaking. I happened to be part of the night watchman, I immediately woke up my family and other residents because I was worried that the building would collapse again,” said Dadan (35), a refugee from the Gasol village.

He said that since the first day of the quake, residents have been dogged by aftershocks, ranging from small to quite large tremors.

“Sleep was restless, due to the continuous aftershocks. Also as of 12 last night at 0200 WIB, four aftershocks were felt,” he said.
