Special Olympics El Salvador completed the delegation for the Latin American Games – – 2024-04-27 16:09:17

Special Olympics El Salvador held this afternoon the draw to choose the four athletics representatives and complete the delegation of 20 athletes that will participate in the IV Latin American Games Asunción 2024, which will take place in Paraguay, from October 4 to 12.

Daniela Alejandra Chávez, Katherine Barrera, Manuel de Jesús Gutiérrez and Alan Steven Landaverde were the last four athletes to be added to the roster through the draw.

In addition to athletics, El Salvador will have representation in rhythmic gymnastics, weightlifting, badminton and bocce.

The national delegation was made up of 16 Special Olympics athletes and four unified athletes. They will be joined by five coaches, two delegates and a doctor.

The substitute athletes chosen are Evelyn Gutiérrez, Yanira Guadalupe Quintanilla, Salvador Paredes and Diego Vladimir Alas.

“It has really been exciting because one would like to take them all, but we can’t. I am very happy because we already have the last four athletes and their respective substitutes. We have already completed the delegation and thanks to the president of INDES who offered us air tickets we will be able to attend this event,” mentioned Sandra de Uceda, president of Special Olympics El Salvador.

Iliana Herrera, from Runners 503 and ambassador of Special Olympics El Salvador, was in charge of drawing the four names from the pot in which technical staff deposited 40 names of athletes in the male branch and 18 in the female branch. All of them are medalists in the athletics qualifying tournament in the different events.

The Salvadoran delegation is scheduled to travel to the Paraguayan capital on October 3.

On April 17, Special Olympics El Salvador also chose the representatives of the other four sports.

In rhythmic gymnastics, those chosen were Fátima Espinoza, Loyda Pastor, Jennifer López, Claudia Martínez, while, in weightlifting, Billy Escobar, William Alfaro, Macklyn Moreno and Ricardo Ramírez will represent the country.

Meanwhile, in bocce, Gledys Umanzor and Óscar Merino were the chosen ones, while, in badminton, Byron Nerio and Dayana Silvares were the chosen ones.

“The delegation includes athletes from San Vicente, Sonsonate, San Miguel and San Salvador. We are happy, because there are athletes who have never traveled. The coaches have to give us a plan so that they can start working for the Latin American Games,” said Uceda.

Sandra de Uceda also confirmed that Gabriela Velásquez will travel to Paraguay, but no longer as part of the delegation of rhythmic gymnastics athletes, but will participate in the Regional Unified Leadership Summit.
