‘Look what happened, crime in NY is ridiculous’

According to police, officers were working special assignment inside the Doux Club at 59 West 21st Street around 2:50 a.m. Friday when a bouncer at the club notified them of a robbery that was happening outside.

The officers got out and that’s when two suspects started shooting at them, so they responded in their defense.

A vehicle passing by at the time was shot at, but the driver was not injured.

Ernesto Rosas was working selling food at this stall when he heard what happened.

“We heard there were bullets, about five bullets,” Rosas said.

The suspects fled in a white car, apparently an Audi brand.

They have been identified as two men, one wearing black pants and a blue sweater, the other wearing a black sweater.

According to the police, there is a nightclub in this place where there was another shooting recently.

Ernesto says that sometimes he feels afraid working in the area at dawn.

“I am always aware of the situation because on weekends like here there are bars, they often fight,” added Rosas.

For Elizabeth, who works nearby and arrives from Brooklyn by train, the city is getting more and more dangerous.

“Look what happened now, crime in New York is ridiculous,” said Elizabeth Alejandro.

According to statistics from the New York police, general crime increased by 31.1% in June compared to the same month last year.

Traffic crime increased by 53 percent compared to last year.

Thefts increased by 36.1%

Serious assaults increased by 17.3%

There were no injuries and the police continue to investigate to find the whereabouts of the suspects and ask the community if they know anything to call 1-888 57-CLUE.
