Long-Term Practical Trial: Vaccination Against Coccidiosis in Poultry Farming

Long-term practical trial successfully completed

Coccidiosis can have a significant impact on operating results. Preventive measures can help limit the negative effects of an infection. One of them is vaccination. In the past year, four poultry farmers, in collaboration with Pluimveepraktijk Noord en Oost and De Heus Voeders, carried out a long-term practical trial with vaccination against coccidiosis.

Darmparasiet Eimeria

Where poultry lives, coccidiosis also occurs. They are, as it were, inextricably linked. Coccidiosis is the term for a range of conditions triggered by a highly contagious intestinal parasite of the genus Eimeria. The species Acervulina, Maxima and Tenella are best known within broiler farming. The type and quantity of oocysts ingested largely determine the intensity of disease symptoms.

Tough parasite

The Eimeria parasite can survive in its environment for a very long time. Even with proper cleaning and disinfection to reduce pressure, infections will continue to occur. And because coccidiosis has a major impact on intestinal health, and thus on company results, it is important to take other measures as well.
