Lebanon’s Electricity Crisis: Implications, Challenges, and Solutions

Until today, the state, with all its members, has not been able to resolve the electricity issue and impose stability in it to save the country from intermittent darkness or a near-total blackout. A file that is no longer only a dagger in the side of the economy, but rather a defect recorded on Lebanon, while the poorest third world countries and the lowest of Lebanon have human and material capabilities to provide electricity to their citizens 24 by 24. After the government adopted the plan of the Minister of Energy and his future strategy to maintain the continuity of nutrition to the minimum possible, When moving to the sustainable rescue phase, the first stages of the plan succeeded, according to what he told “An-Nahar,” in terms of “increasing the tariff, successful campaigns to remove infringements, and reducing the waste rate to 35%, in addition to installing meters for Syrian refugee camps and starting the “Electricité du Liban.” With billing, in parallel with the start of billing for public institutions and administrations and allocating $100 million in the 2024 budget to pay public sector bills, allowing the Electricity Corporation to cover all or at least most of the cost of fuel.” But the dilemma of securing the necessary dollars from the Bank of Lebanon and the almost total loss of confidence between Officials, in addition to sometimes some political resentment, make every new signature and every new import contract a subject of controversy and discussion, both legal and administrative, which hinders arriving at the complete truth because each party to the file has its own story and convincing justifications. Today, things have reached what the Minister of Energy had warned about, and the situation has returned to square one with the loss of power supply…
