Mexico City. The Government of Mexico, through the Biological and Reagent Laboratories of Mexico (Birmex) sent the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology the pilot tests for packaging the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The batches with the pilot tests of components 1 and 2 were sheltered in the facilities of the National Institute of Virology of Birmex in conditions of minus 20 degrees Celsius, and once the necessary procedures had been completed, today they were sent to the institute in Russia for analysis. .

In a statement, Birmex indicated that the packaging of the pilot test of component 1 of the Sputnik V vaccine was carried out successfully, for which 10 liters of the active substance were used, which arrived on June 29 and concluded the packaging process. On July 2.

Similarly, on July 5, 10 liters of the active substance of the second biological component were received to carry out the pilot test, which was successfully concluded on July 8; It should be noted that the presentation of five doses per bottle, which will be packaged in Mexico, is the same as used in Russia.

Once the vials of the validation series have been sent to the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, an average of 21 days elapse until a response is issued, from which the corresponding quality certificates will be obtained.

He added that once this stage is concluded, the technology transfer process would be implemented to begin mass production of the vaccine, ready to be supplied in Mexico, led by Birmex and Mexican laboratories established as strategic partners.

Birmex emphasized that before its production in our country, it must have the authorization of the Federal Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) for its use and with this, the application of this biological in Mexico would begin.
