La 1 premieres ‘Mapi’, its new entertainment bet

La 1 will premiere at the beginning of August its new entertainment bet for this summer: Mapi. A surprising and fun program starring a virtual girl who will drive celebrities crazy with her questions. Adaptation of the great Japanese success Chiko’s Challenge, it is a space for all audiences produced by RTVE in collaboration with Mediacrest and presented by the well-known magician, presenter, screenwriter and comedian Jandro.

In each broadcast, the format will test the logic and imagination of a group of celebrities who must answer the surprising questions posed by Mapi, animated using CGI technology. Very funny questions that any child would ask and that are difficult to answer. The objective of the guests is twofold: to get away with their peculiar questions and hit the maximum number of answers to add mapis (points) to their markers.

The protagonist is a girl with great curiosity who, in each chapter, deals with different aspects of any topic: “Why is the sky blue?”, “Why do we slip on the ice?”, “Why do we only There are 28 days in February?”… The viewer will see how he interacts with the presenter and with the guests on set in a surprising way. But be careful, because she also gets angry. She does it to make it clear how important it is to keep learning every day. He then reveals the surprising answer, followed by an explanation from an expert in the field.

Those responsible for the format, during their presentation. The questions, made by a childish mentality, make the contestants and the spectators rack their heads and realize that they had never asked themselves such a question. For this reason, Mapi is more than just a question and answer program: it is an intellectual and cultural challenge that will captivate the viewer from the very first program.

“At RTVE we continue to bet on new narratives, we continue to reinvent ourselves to reach more people,” said María Eizaguirre, Director of Communication and Participation of Radio Televisión Española, during the presentation of “a contest that is out of the ordinary, and that brings together very well our vocation of public service”, added Ana María Bordas, director of Originals. According to the head of RTVE, the space brings together “technological novelty, humor and pure entertainment for the whole family.”

For his part, Daniel Domenjó, executive director of Mediacrest, stressed that “we are breaking the history of television because for the first time in Spain a series of characteristics are assumed that had not been given to date and a pioneering technological system is used to real time”.

Regarding the experience of the recordings, Jandro commented that “it has been wonderful, it is the first contest in which you do not get any questions right, but you still want to return”. He also stressed that what has fascinated him the most has been Mapi: “I have a great time with her, her personality is the great discovery for me.”

How does it come to life?

Thanks to the operation of CGI (Computer Generated Image), the protagonist achieves comical facial expressions and amazing reactions, and her image is created live and direct. It is a new and state-of-the-art technological process.

During filming, the actress who gives life to Mapi (played by Carla Pulpón and designed by the illustrator Marcos Raya) wears a reference head and a facial capture camera that are synchronized with CGI technology to replace her face with that of the lively girl
