“It was the first match on clay and I didn’t have much time to prepare. The beginnings on clay are always challenging mentally and physically for me, but I’m glad I found a way to win the first set,” said Kvitová, 31, on the court.

Martincová pulled out the procedure
Tereza Martincová won the second round at the clay tournament in Bogota. The Czech player, who moved into the top 100 for the first time in her career in Monday’s edition of the WTA rankings and is ranked number seven in Colombia, defeated the Swiss Leonia Küng after a more than two-hour duel 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4.
The opening set, in which both players could rely on the service, was decided by the only breakball that Küng used. Gradually, however, the match turned into a duel for every game. Martincová was already leading 4: 1, but then she completely dropped out of the game and in the thickening drizzle allowed her opponent to equalize.
