Finally, there is already a final certification that approves the application of the Indian vaccine Covaxin. The news was communicated by the president, Mario Abdo Benítez, this Tuesday.

“La Cofepris, regulatory body for medicines from Mexico, has authorized the emergency use of the Covaxin vaccine, “said the president through a tweet.

For the application of vaccines in Paraguay, the authorization of emergency use from one of the high-level regulatory entities categorized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks of Mexico was necessary.

The Ministry of Health reported that approval is now awaited by the National Technical Advisory Committee on Immunizations (Cotenai) to enable its use in our country.

For this week the arrival of some 10,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines of the one million that were purchased by the Government is also expected. So far, Paraguay has only received 4,000 Russian doses.

Certification will lead to the purchase of more vaccines

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Euclides Acevedo, stressed that with the Cofepris certification, the country will be able to receive the other 100,000 doses that are part of a donation from the Indian Government and buy more vaccines.

“We are going to be waiting for the other 100,000 doses, this relieves us a lot, this has been a coordinated effort between Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I congratulate the Health colleagues and the RREE colleagues, they were working, this allows us to wait comfortably and calmly for the other shipment of the 100,000 doses, “he remarked.

In addition, he indicated that they sought to save time and the contract model had already been sent, which in the event of an agreement “we would sign and we would be waiting for a fairly large batch of the 2 million vaccines that we want to buy,” he said.

Likewise, the Chancellor announced that two private pharmaceutical companies are also in the task of acquiring North American vaccines, which at first the Government did not manage due to the limitations regarding the refrigeration of the drugs.

“It is certain information, our friends from Lasca, like our friends Harrison, are in the task of managing the arrival of North American vaccines, including what could not be bought before due to logistical cooling reasons, today our private laboratories are absolutely prepared to receive vaccines that are kept at very low temperatures, “he said.
