Werkhof Lochweidli is established

The decision for an investment loan for the realization of the Lochweidli works yard in the Lauterbrunnen WWTP was clearly accepted with 479 votes in favor to 353 against. The voters thus opted for the loan of 1.96 million francs. This is divided into 250,000 francs to renovate the roof and facade of the existing TKK hall and 1.71 million francs to lengthen the same hall by ten meters.

The municipality is still interested in a cooperation for district heating in Lauterbrunnen, said municipality president Martin Stäger.

The Lauterbrunnen Wegmeistergruppe will move into the enlarged and renovated hall. In addition, a planned district heating system should find space in the hall, but whether a heating center for Energie 360 ° will be built in Lauterbrunnen has not yet been clarified. Currently they are still busy looking for people interested in district heating, says Lauterbrunnen’s mayor Martin Stäger. “We don’t expect a definitive acceptance or rejection before summer.”

And of course they would have had to wait for the approval of the people to move to the works yard, said Stäger. “If this decision hadn’t been passed, we could have forgotten the entire district heating project.” In contrast, the move of the Wegmeister is independent of the outcome of the district heating project. “We will continue with our project as planned.”

Lauberhorn races and the station area also get a yes

In addition, the resolution on the annual contributions to the International Lauberhorn Races was adopted with 529 votes in favor to 302 against. The citizens of Lauterbrunnen decided to increase the previous annual contribution from CHF 50,000 to CHF 125,000. However, the amounts are initially limited to the year 2026, meaning that the electorate awarded the organizers a total of 750,000 francs.

The municipality of Lauterbrunnen thus joins other municipalities of the sponsoring association and also of the canton of Bern that have already decided or at least promised an increase in contributions. “Due to the outcome of the vote, we can now say that we are doing our part to keep the Lauberhorn race alive,” said Stäger. At least in six years. “Then we will have to look again whether and how much we and the other parties involved are adding.”

Lauterbrunnen's voters accepted a total of three of the four agenda items.

Most recently, the decision on an investment loan for the renovation and redesign of the station square was also adopted with 473 votes in favor to 362 against. The total costs amount to around 1.7 million francs, a large part of which will be borne by the canton. The Lauterbrunnen voters have granted the project a loan of 770,000 francs.

The municipality is thus participating in the construction of the new bus stop and is assuming the costs for the planned bicycle shed and for realizing the kiss-and-ride parking spaces. The construction project is to be implemented between 2023 and 2024.

“It’s nice when people deal with community politics.”

Stäger is basically satisfied with the outcome of these three votes. “I would have liked a little more yes-votes with one or the other.” Especially since a planned information event could not take place. “There we might have been able to convince other voters, since all questions can never be answered in an election message.” Nevertheless, he is satisfied with the turnout of a good 58 percent. “It’s nice when people deal with community politics and give their opinion.”
