Jokowi: Government Prepares 290 Million Doses of Covid-19 Vaccine until 2021

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo stated that the government has prepared 290 million doses vaccine Covid-19 until the end of 2021.

It was conveyed Jokowi when opening a limited meeting on the handling of Covid-19 at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (24/8/2020).

“Earlier, I got a report from the Foreign Minister, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, until the end of 2021 we will have more or less committed to 290 million (vaccine doses). A very large number,” said Jokowi.

He claimed that Indonesia is the country that is most prepared to provide vaccines for its citizens in ASEAN.

The reason, he saw that other countries had just received production commitments the Covid-19 vaccine as much as 1-2 million doses.

Thus, Jokowi added, Indonesia’s handling of Covid-19 was on the right track.

He hopes that this will be supported by good public communication so that economic activities can gradually return to normal.

For information, PT Bio Farma (Persero) is confirmed to accept bulk or concentrate Ready to Fill (RTF) Covid-19 vaccine from Sinovac as many as 50 million doses in November 2020 to March 2021.

This assurance was marked by the signing of the Prelimenary Agreement of Purchase and Supply of Bulk Production of Covid-19 Vaccine, which was held on August 20, 2020 in Hainan, China.

Minister of BUMN and Chief Executive of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPEN) Erick Thohir said that in the agreement Bio Farma is not only processing and distributing it, but there is also an element of technology transfer.

On August 20, 2020, two agreements were signed.

First, Indonesia is certain to get an additional bulk supply of Covid-19 vaccines until March 2021, additional supplies until the end of 2021.

The agreement is to agree on a commitment to supply availability bulk vaccine up to 50 million doses of vaccine from November 2020 to March 2021.

The second document signed by Sinovac and Bio Farma is the MoU on capacity commitment bulk vaccine 2021 where Sinovac will give priority to Bio Farma for supply bulk vaccine until the end of 2021.
