Jill Wright’s Journey from NHS Speech Therapist to West End Costume Designer in Memory of Son Harry Wright

Jill Wright (Jill Wright) son, actor Harry Wright (Harry Wright) told her that she would really like to work in the theater. After her son’s death, Jill realized that he was right.

Jill’s son Harry loved singing and dancing. Already at the age of 18 months, he danced along to the songs of the group “Spice Girls”, watching the dance steps on TV. At the age of seven, he won a talent contest and at the age of 16 won a scholarship to the Urdang Academy of Performing Arts in London. At the age of 23, he was performing The Book of Mormon in West London when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Two years later, in 2019, Harry died. The death of her son completely changed Jill’s life.

This year, aged 61, she staged a play written by Harry in his memory at St Paul’s in Covent Garden. It is known as the “Church of Actors”. After working in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) for forty years, the last of which as a speech therapist for children with special needs, she changed professions to become a costume designer for Les Misérables. “It was because of him that I changed careers, I needed a new purpose to move forward,” she tells The Guardian newspaper.
