This is really called showing your true colors Jason Isbell. The Americana star is known to be a self-confessed Democrat whose party color is blue. And with that, his latest album, Georgia Blue, has something to do with it in an unusual way. Georgia Blue is a work of love. On Election Day 2020, when I saw that there was a good chance the Georgia state would turn blue, I had an idea: record an album of Georgia-related songs as a thank you to the state and donate the money to a Georgia nonprofit donate, ”says Isbell. And so it is: The revenues This publication goes to the organizations “Black Voters Matter”, “Georgia Stand Up” and “Fair Fight”.
Isbell thanks the people in Georgia that they voted for the majority of the Democrats, which is rather unusual in the US southern states these days. This time it worked and contributed to that Donald Trump was voted out. So it is absolutely understandable that Isbell is now thanking the state in a special way with recordings of Georgia songs. “I admit that my motivations were a little selfish. For years I’ve been looking for an excuse to record these songs with my band and some friends. The songs on this album are some of my favorite Georgia songs, but the tracklist is by no means exhaustive, ”Isbell mischievously admits.
And so there are pieces by among the songs R.E.M. (Athens, Georgia), James Brown (Augusta, Georgia), Cat Power (Atlanta, Georgia), Otis Redding (Dawson, Georgia) The Allman Brothers Band (Macon, Georgia) or Vic Chesnutt (Zebulon, Georgia). Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit were accompanied by an illustrious group of artists: Amanda Shires, Brittney Spencer, Adia Victoria, Brandi Carlile, Julien Baker, Bèla Fleck, Chris Thile, Steve Gorman, Peter Levin and John Paul White.
And whenever top-class musicians get to work in a relaxed, comradely atmosphere, you can hear the results. It is a great pleasure to listen to these covers. Check out tips among others are the opener “Nightswimming Blue” (REM), “It’s A Man’s World” (James Brown) – with Brittney Spencer, “Midnight Train To Georgia” also with Brittney Spencer and John Paul White, originally by Gladys Night & The pips. No cover goes wrong, everything is a very stylish matter due to the strong line-up. “I hope you enjoy listening to these recordings as much as we enjoyed making them. Keep listening to good music and fighting a good fight ”, Jason Isbell calls out to his audience and hopes for a lot of sales and thus a lot of income for a good cause.
Conclusion: He is and remains an exceptional artist. Jason Isbell is because of his life path, his understanding of music, and advocating for a just and peaceful America, an American beacon of hope.
