[ドーハ/エルサレム 12日 ロイター] – On the 12th, the Israeli military conducted a special operation in Rafah, the southernmost part of Gaza, in the Palestinian autonomous region, and rescued two hostages. The rescue operation was accompanied by an airstrike that killed 67 people and injured dozens, according to local health authorities.

According to the Israeli military, the joint operation was carried out by the Defense Forces (IDF), the internal security agency Shin Bet, and special police forces.

A military spokesperson said: “It was a very complex operation. We have been working on it for a long time. We were waiting for the right situation.” Air strikes were also carried out at the same time.

The two rescued people were two men, aged 60 and 70, who had dual nationality with Argentina. The Argentine government expressed its gratitude to the Israeli government.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, 67 people have been confirmed dead so far. However, the death toll may rise due to search efforts.

Residents said Israeli aircraft, tanks and ships took part in the attack. Two mosques and several houses were damaged in the attack, which lasted more than an hour.

“This was the worst night since I came to Rafah last month. Missiles and shells fell 200 meters from our tent. Death is very close,” one Gazan man told Reuters via a conversation app.
