Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Update: Three Killed in Jerusalem Attack, Ceasefire Continues

Nov 30, 2023 at 10:18 AM Update: an hour ago

Three people were killed in an attack in Jerusalem on Thursday. According to Israeli police, two Palestinian brothers opened fire at a bus stop. Israel announces that the planned ceasefire with Hamas will continue on Thursday.

Two women and a man were killed in the attack. Six people were injured, two of them seriously. They were taken to hospital. The victims were waiting at a bus stop in the Givat Shaul neighborhood when the perpetrators opened fire.

The two attackers were shot dead by off-duty Israeli officers. According to Israeli intelligence, the perpetrators had ties to Hamas and may have been members of the militant group.

Israeli media report that the brothers are from East Jerusalem. That part of the city is considered Palestinian territory. The brothers are said to be 30 and 38 years old and have previously been detained for “terrorist activities”.

Earlier on Thursday, Israel and Hamas confirmed that the ceasefire between the two sides would be extended again for another day. This happened just before the previously agreed pause in fighting expired. The attack took place after the extended pause in fighting was announced.

Israel reported that the ceasefire will continue on Thursday. It is not yet clear what consequences the attack will have for a possible new extension of the fighting break. “This attack is further proof of the need to keep fighting and defend ourselves against the threats against our citizens,” Deputy Prime Minister Benny Gantz responded to X.
