In the anti-turban demonstrations in Iran in 2022, a 16-year-old girl died. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) said that the secret documents they received show that Nika Shakarami was sexually assaulted and beaten before her death.

In 2022, a large number of women in Iran inspired demonstrations due to the Mahsa Amini incident, and Shakarami, who was 16 years old at the time, was one of them. The girl disappeared after the show and her body was found in the street 9 days later, the Iranian government explained that Shakarami killed himself. However, the BBC obtained confidential documents from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, which said the girl had been harassed by members of the Guards before her death, and that she had been beaten, kicked and attacked with a bat.

The BBC said it had received a document marked “top secret” which summarized the investigation into what happened to Shakarami and listed the names of the members who killed the girl. The report indicated that Shakarami was trapped in an undercover Revolutionary Guard truck and was assaulted by a Revolutionary Guard member who was on her head. Meanwhile, some members attacked her with batons out of dissatisfaction. The BBC pointed out that because many official documents were fake in Iran, it took several months to verify the authenticity of the documents.

According to Iranian authorities, Shakarami’s death had nothing to do with the demonstrations and she said she killed herself. However, according to the investigation, Shakarami took part in the demonstration on September 20 and was photographed burning her headdress. The BBC said she was already under investigation by the Revolutionary Guards. According to reports, one of the 12th Squadron of the Revolutionary Guards believed that Shakarami could be the leader of the show because of the girl’s unusual behavior and constant phone calls.

Girl arrested after investigation by Revolutionary Guards

According to reports, members of the team tried to get close to the girl to confirm her identity as the leader, and then asked their companions to help arrest her, and later the girl ran away. The BBC also said that the girl called her friends that night and said that the security forces were after her. The girl was later arrested by Revolutionary Guards and imprisoned in an unmarked refrigerated truck. The report said that three members of Group 12, Arash Kalhor, Sadegh Monjazy and Behrooz Sadeghy, were in the car with the girl at the time, and the leader of the group was in the driver’s seat. Later the team looked for some places to put the girl, but since one of the police camps was full, they went to another detention center that was willing to take the girl at first, but refused them later.

The captain of the team said that because the girl continued to curse at the car guards, he was worried that her detention at the police station would attract other people and cause a disturbance. So, after they called the headquarters, they planned to send Shakarami to prison, and then they heard a crash from inside the car. The three people in the car confirmed that the girl was making noise in the first detention centre, so one of them stuffed a sock into the girl’s mouth, and then asked Sadegh Monjazy to sit down on her. Another member pointed out that Sadegh Monjazy had put his hand into the girl’s pants in the car, and said that they started to lose control after that.

A fight caused by sexual assault

Although the report said that Sadegh Monjazy put his hand in the girl’s pants, he admitted that he was sexually aroused by the contact with the girl’s arm. Sadegh Monjazy said that this provoked the girl’s strong resistance, so Sadegh Monjazy acted in self-defense. After the team leader stopped the car, he found that the girl had no signs of life and removed the blood on the girl’s face and head. According to the report received by the girl’s mother, it was confirmed that the girl was attacked with hard objects in several places. The team leader said that he did not intend to understand the cause after what happened, but he wanted to find a solution. When they sought support from the headquarters, they did not want to increase the number of deaths to 20 because there had been death. at the headquarters, saying that he would not bring the girl’s body back to the base to solve the problem, and “threw the body out of the street”, and then abandoned a body the girl on a deserted path under the road.

The BBC also pointed out that the report concluded that the fight was caused by sexual assault, and that 3 batons and 3 stun guns were used, but that they could not confirm which weapon caused the attack. the death Later, the Iranian government said the girl fell from a tall building and died. Shakarami’s mother said they were not sure if Shakarami was the girl who jumped from the building. The BBC also said it later learned of the authenticity of the report through Iranian intelligence officials and believed it was part of a 322-page report on the demonstrations in Iran. Therefore, the BBC believes that the content of the relevant report is true.
