Inventor of cassette tape and CD has passed away

Lodewijk Ottens died

Dutch engineer Lodewijk Ottens created some of the top gadgets of the 20th century. He died last Saturday at age 95.

Lodewijk Ottens, best known for his inventions of tape for cassettes and CDs, has passed away in the Netherlands. He was 94 years old, writes March 10 Dutch News.

Ottens reportedly died on 6 March at his home in North Brabant province.

The engineer has worked for Philips all his life. He headed the company’s product development department. In the first year of his leadership, a portable tape recorder was developed. After that, Lodewijk Ottens invented tape for cassettes, while he calculated that the cassette should be small and convenient. With the advancement of technology, Ottens invented the CD.

The engineer went on a well-deserved retirement in 1986 and has always maintained that both brainchildren were created by collective efforts.

It was previously reported that a resident of Indonesia to avoid traffic jams built his own helicopter using video tutorials.
