India: couple accused a hospital asked them to “sell their son to pay his medical debts” | Society

An Indian couple reported an unusual event that occurred a few days ago in a hospital in the city of Agra, in the north of the country, where They allegedly asked them to sell their newborn son to pay the debts they had left on the premises.

The event was narrated by the Times of India, where the story they lived was recounted Babita, a 36-year-old woman, and her 40-year-old husband Shiv Charan.

Both told the aforementioned media that their son was born last week by caesarean section, which cost a total of 30,000 rupees (316,571 Chilean pesos), to which were added drug expenses that reached another 5,000 rupees (52,761 pesos).

The couple assured that, because they did not have that money, the management of the enclosure offered them a total of 100,000 rupees (1,055,237 Chilean pesos) to pay off the debt.

From the Agra Hospital they dismissed the accusations and indicated that the baby was not bought, but in fact the parents gave it up for adoption because they could not take charge of maintenance, which was documented.

However, the couple indicated that both cannot read or write, so they signed a document with fingerprints without knowing what it was about.

“Those claims are wrong. We do not force them to surrender their child. They did it of their own free will. I have a copy of the written agreement, signed by the parents, expressing their willingness, “said Seema Gupta, manager of the hospital.

For their part, Babita and Shiv filed a complaint with the police against the hospital, hoping that their son will be returned shortly.

“This is a serious matter. It will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken against the culprits, ”said Prabhu N Singh, a district magistrate.
