Law enforcement officers informed of the attack on the Lugano store before 2 p.m., Ticino cantonal police said.
The 28-year-old Swiss attacked two other women, one of them trying to strangle her hands and the other injuring her neck with a knife, the original investigation found.
Other buyers curbed the attacker, who was apprehended, a police statement said.
The injuries are serious for one victim, but they are not life-threatening, but the injuries of the other victim are minor, police said.
Law enforcement officers “do not rule out terrorist motives,” Ticino police said, adding that they were cooperating with the federal authorities and the Lugano police in the investigation.
