FROM TOWN TO TOWN – Every day, until the first round of municipal elections on March 15, we give you the essentials to understand the voting in the 35 largest cities in France. Today, the 17th: Dijon (Côte-d’Or).

The current situation. With the exception of his passage to the Ministry of Labor under the government of Manuel Valls (2014-2015), François Rebsamen has been at the head of the city since 2001. Widely re-elected in 2014 (52.84% of the votes in the second round face to the right and to the far right), the former president of the Socialists in the Senate leaves with a head start for this new ballot.

The competition. An Ifop Fiducial / Le Bien public poll published on February 19 gives the outgoing mayor at the head of the first round, with 38% of the voting intentions. François Rebsamen (68 years old) can always count on the support of the Modem, but more on that of the Communists. Above all, for the first time since 1995, EELV has decided to go alone for these municipalities. Stéphanie Modde, head of the party’s list in the city of the Dukes of Burgundy and assistant to the mayor, would even make a breakthrough (20% of voting intentions).

In third position in the poll (16%), the Dijon right led by Emmanuel Bichot is in trouble. Like En Marche and its candidate Sylvain Comparot, unknown to the general public (6%). The National Rally, embodied by Damien Cantin, peaks at 9% despite its ambitions. France rebellious and its head of the list Arnaud Guvenatam is credited with 6% of the votes.

The little extra info. The campaign for municipal elections has given rise to unusual initiatives in the Côte-d´Or prefecture. Bruno Louis, a green candidate, created the buzz by roughly displaying the word “sex” on his program and posters to attract the attention of voters. According to Ifop, he would win 5% of the votes in the first round. 59 lawyers have filed a list to give an echo to their mobilization against the pension reform. A first in France.
