Of course you can, maybe you have to, “of course with distance and hand washing”. The planned festival with the family, especially with the son, daughter-in-law and the two grandchildren, will be rescheduled. But she will toast and celebrate together with her husband Konrad Breyer. Speaking of husband: He always took and shares in his wife’s work and contacts; Golden wedding has already been celebrated. A new book will be published for the birthday There should be very few 80-year-olds who give themselves a book they have written for their birthday. Charlotte Breyer’s eighth book “On Happiness in Late Years – Gray Days Included” has just been published by Echter Verlag. “I wanted to go back to the topic of age,” she says. “Because I’ve grown old and look at the life of elderly men and women with a new look, also at myself. So I was able to bring in my own experiences and feelings.” People were most interested in the longtime journalist. They are the focus of her numerous books. And even in her 51 years as an editor at Main-Post, she kept looking behind the facade of men and women, describing her drive, her search and the motives for her actions. Charlotte Breyer asked her questions concretely and sensitively at the same time. The interviewees immediately noticed that she liked people by the way she turned. This resulted in cheerful but also thoughtful texts. Newspaper work was more than a job, it was a calling. When Charlotte Breyer started at Main Post in 1963, she was the first female volunteer. “After the first difficult weeks, I knew that was my job, newspapers were mine.” And so it was for 50 years. Under the abbreviation “chb” she wrote about women’s, youth and children’s issues, emancipation and equality. She founded the page “Seniors in the center”, which later became “Forum 55”. Your name is inextricably linked to the sponsored child campaign The sponsored child campaign is also inextricably linked to her name. She received the Federal Cross of Merit for her commitment to the aid campaign of the Main-Post media group. And there were even more prizes: Their efforts for self-help groups were rewarded with the Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit. She is also a founding and honorary member of the Alzheimer Society in Würzburg, Lower Franconia. Charlotte Breyer’s life is rich: there are grandchildren who have grown up in the meantime and who surprise her and her husband as grandparents again and again. There are the regular readings from their books in senior institutions, the contacts to long-term friends, former colleagues – also with husband Konrad at a shop – and the meetings of the Soroptimist International Club Würzburg. It is the people that interest them.
