Hubble Telescope Captures Stunning Image of Spiral Galaxy NGC 685

One of the most famous space telescopes in the world, Hubble, has once again delighted us with its amazing images of distant stars and galaxies.

This time, the Hubble telescope presented a new image of the spiral galaxy NGC 685, which is located at a distance of about 58 million light years from Earth in the constellation Eridanus. NGC 685 lies south of the celestial equator and can be seen from the Southern Hemisphere. reports NASA.

This galaxy has a bright core surrounded by vortex arms of gas, dust and stars. The image shows many young blue stars that form in regions of active star formation in the galaxy’s arms.

NGC 685 is a SABbc galaxy, meaning that it has a weak cross-bar between the arms and a moderate degree of folding of the arms. This galaxy is a member of the Abell 539 galaxy cluster, which consists of more than 100 galaxies of different shapes and sizes.

NGC 685 was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel in 1834. The entire galaxy has a diameter of about 60 thousand light years – slightly more than half the Milky Way.

As previously reported, NASA is implementing launch of a 98-meter launch vehicle Space Launch System equipped with an Orion capsule.

And the American rover Curiosity did photograph something that looks like a doorway perfectly carved into the Martian landscape.
