This crime shocks the USA: In New York, a homosexual has been killed after dancing with friends at a gas station. The police are assuming a hate crime.
The victim is a professional dancer named O’Shae Sibley († 28). Friends and celebrities mourn him – including mega-star Beyoncé. She posted on her website, “Rest in Power O’Shae Sibley.”
After the alleged crime, a suspect has now turned himself in to the police. The reportedly Muslim student (17) was arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with hate crime, the investigators said. He is also accused of illegal possession of a weapon.
However, unlike in many other cases, the US authorities will not reveal the name of the alleged perpetrator because it is a minor.
That had happened
The bloody deed happened on Saturday a week ago. Sibley, who was later killed, was on his way home with friends after a day at the beach. The group stopped at a gas station in Brooklyn, New York.

“While waiting to fill up their vehicle, Mr. Sibley and his group began dancing to music being played in their car,” Deputy Commissioner Joe Kenny said. It was a Beyoncé album. Most of the dancers only wore swim shorts and were shirtless.
Witness heard: “I am Muslim. I don’t want this”
“At that point, a male person called out to Mr Sibley and his group to stop dancing,” the senior police officer continued. “When the group started yelling at Mr Sibley and his friends, they started using derogatory names and homophobic slurs against him.” Racist slurs are also said to have been used.
A gas station attendant (32) observed the scene. He later spoke to the „New York Times“ about it. One of the young troublemakers is said to have said: “I’m a Muslim. I don’t want this.”

The gas station attendant is shocked by the incident. “I can’t forget what I saw,” he said. “It’s not the gays’ fault because they just did their own thing. You haven’t done anything.”

The dispute can be seen on video from a surveillance camera. At some point it will escalate. Sibley follows one of the youths, disappearing out of camera view with him. A moment later he walks backwards into the frame, examining one side of his body: he was stabbed in the torso. Then he collapses on the sidewalk.
Shortly after these scenes, O’Shae Sibley died in a hospital.
