The Salzburg public prosecutor’s office accuses Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck of serious bodily harm. The Berlin goalkeeper has to stand trial in Austria.

Salzburg. The charges against Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck will be heard in the Salzburg regional court on Thursday (11 a.m.). The Austrian public prosecutor’s office accuses the 28-year-old of serious bodily harm. Gersbeck is said to have punched and kicked a 22-year-old on the night of July 16th during the Berlin second division soccer team’s training camp in Zell am See. The alleged victim suffered facial fractures and an eyelid hematoma. Gersbeck has not yet commented publicly on the allegations. If found guilty, the goalkeeper faces a prison sentence of six months to five years, according to Austrian law.

Hertha suspended Gersbeck after the allegations became known. The goalkeeper had only returned from Karlsruher SC to his youth club in Berlin for the new season and was supposed to lead the young team on the hoped-for path back to the Bundesliga. It was still unclear whether there would be a verdict after the main hearing on Thursday.
