The current global trend is an increased interest in the topic of the environment, which is also reflected in the functioning of retail chains. For example, the already mentioned brand of Penny Market my Bio offers customers not only organic food, but is also environmentally friendly, says Kubík.

“For example, carrots will be offered in a paper tray together with 100% biodegradable foil. Compared to standard carrot packaging, all plastics will be completely eliminated. Customers will receive lemons in a compostable net,” he explains.

Lidl, in turn, is focusing on expanding its network of charging stations at its stores. “We plan to build almost twenty of them this year. Customers can recharge their electric car for free during their purchase,” praises Lidla spokesman Tomáš Myler.

The employees also underwent changes

As of March 1, Penny Market has increased employee wages by an average of 3 percent. “The basic salary of cashiers in the case of full-time work without any surcharges is now in the range of 25,000 to almost thirty thousand crowns, depending on the length of employment,” said Kubík.

Billa has been raising wages since January 1, an average of 5 percent. “We are preparing other news and we will inform about them in the coming weeks,” Bratánková added. Wages also rose for Alberta employees in January. “The change concerns thousands of cashiers, storekeepers, butchers, greengrocers and bakers, whose wages have increased by an average of 6 percent,” the press department said.

A spokeswoman for Kaufland told the TN.cz editorial board that the company will introduce a new benefit for employees in the coming months. What exactly is it, but so far it remains shrouded in mystery.
