The Mayor of Santiago, Abel Martínez, announced that he has placed important data in the hands of the Public Ministry and the National Police that would lead “the correct path” to the investigations into the fire at the Eco Parque Rafey landfill, and announced that the responsibility ” will fall on the improvised ”of district boards that respond to the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
Referring to this and other fires that have affected different landfills in various provinces of the national territory, Martínez stated that the PRM executes what he described as “a destabilizing and chaotic plan throughout the country”, through the mayoralties he obtained in the past municipal elections.
He stressed that the fire in the Rafey landfill threatened the health of families residing in its vicinity and the rest of Santiago, at a time when the country is going through a health crisis due to the coronavirus, which has already caused nearly 400 deaths.
“In this criminal action,” he added, “they tried to set the entire landfill on fire; Obviously it is controlled, there is no garbage to burn, but the rubber deposit was set on fire, however, we repelled this aggression with the security that was here on the part of the City Council, although they managed to create a great flare at the time without thinking about the consequences ”, affirmed Martínez.
Noting that the Santiago mayor’s office has tightened security at the landfill, Martínez said that the PRM leadership should arrest the leaders of its district boards, whom it attributes to having carried out actions in Cienfuegos, and other parts of the country to create chaos, and He stated that in Santiago “that plan will fail.”
He reiterated his request to the Dominican Municipal League and the Dominican Federation of Municipalities to guide the new district authorities on the scope of their powers.
