Hamburg gets Astrazeneca from Schleswig-Holstein

Hamburg (dpa / lno) – Schleswig-Holstein gives part of the Astrazeneca vaccine provided by Denmark to Hamburg. The delivery could result in at least 8,000 new appointments in the vaccination center on Wednesday, said the spokesman for the Hamburg health authority, Martin Helfrich. The neighboring federal state does not manage to use the cans from Danish stocks in time before the expiry date at the end of June.

All Hamburgers over 60 years of age could make the additional appointments from 12 noon. The municipal vaccination center strictly adheres to the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission to vaccinate Astrazeneca only to people of this age. However, the substance Vaxzevria is approved for all adults. Doctors’ practices could also give the product from the Swedish-British manufacturer to younger people. For this, however, a detailed informative discussion is required, which is not possible in the mass operation of the vaccination center, explained Helfrich.

Schleswig-Holstein has already passed 20,000 cans of Astrazeneca on to North Rhine-Westphalia. Denmark has suspended the vaccinations with Astrazeneca and given Schleswig-Holstein around 115,000 doses in two deliveries.

The number of people vaccinated at least once in Hamburg was given by the Robert Koch Institute on Tuesday at 842,534. 477 032 Hanseatics are now considered fully vaccinated. Accordingly, they make up 25.8 percent of the population. This puts Hamburg in the lower range in a country comparison. In Schleswig-Holstein it is 27.5 percent.
