In Germany, some originally scheduled Abitur exam dates will be postponed in the coming year due to an overlap with Jewish holidays. This was announced by the Jewish community in Frankfurt am Main on Thursday.
Their school head, Harry Schnabel, expressly welcomed the decision of the responsible authorities in the federal states and was pleased that the state Abitur dates could be postponed to 2024.
According to Schnabel, this was necessary “because some of the written exam dates would have fallen on Jewish holidays, which would have made it impossible for the Jewish students and our IE Lichtigfeld school and all Jewish schools nationwide to take or conduct the Abitur exams”. .
The Frankfurt community had contacted the Conference of Ministers of Education about this matter.
The next Passover festival falls on the last week of April 2024. On the first and last days when, according to Jewish tradition, work is not allowed, there will be no Abitur exams.
Schnabel thanked Hesse’s Minister of Education, Alexander Lorz (CDU), for the good cooperation. »I am delighted that our students can now look forward to the 2024 Abitur year unimpaired. As always, we wish you every success!« mth
