The Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodora Genchovska has been accepted for research at the Military Medical Academy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced last night.

On the first working day of the year, she felt unwell, which led to her being admitted to hospital.

The suspicions are that Genchovska has a coronavirus, the Foreign Ministry explained.

If the diagnosis is indeed COVID, it will miss a key meeting of NATO foreign ministers scheduled for this Friday (January 7th). NATO talks with Russia on January 12 in Brussels are to be prepared for these talks.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister is a NATO specialist and has worked as the head of the alliance’s department at the Ministry of Defense. Genchovska is a graduate of the Military Academy and has passed a number of additional qualifications in Germany, Italy, Britain and the United States. Her professional career began at the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army. Before entering politics as a nominee initially for Minister of Defense in the failed governments of “There is such a people”, Genchovska was an aide to President Rumen Radev. That is why her entry into the government of Kiril Petkov was interpreted as a quota of the head of state together with the Minister of Defense Stefan Yanev and Boyko Rashkov in the Ministry of Interior.

The first public scandal of the government was connected with the Foreign Minister. She had appointed as her advisers collaborators of the communist State Security – former diplomats Petyo Petev, Ivan Petrov and Petar Vodenski. The former head of SANS from the time of the triple coalition Petko Sertov had also found a place in Genchovska’s team. For the appointments, Genchovska had taken advantage of the coalition agreement, which gives ministers complete freedom to choose their teams.
