Ban on petrol and diesel cars, shock decision in Europe

The electric and hybrid cars they are spreading more and more on the European market, this is a fact. Every day we witness a progressive expansion of alternative engines, with zero or limited polluting emissions.

The intent, in fact, we know well, is to make all other types of engines disappear gradually, to make room for vehicles that practically cancel the worrying situation of atmospheric pollution which characterizes the whole of Europe, clearly with areas that arouse more discontent and others where the scenario is still ‘acceptable’.

For this reason, the goal of electrifying the car fleet in circulation can no longer be far away, on the contrary. The European Union must decide on precise dates within which to prohibit the sale of vehicles powered by diesel and petrol on the territory of the community. And it is precisely the member countries that ask for it: Malta, Holland, Luxembourg, Austria, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Belgium, Denmark have sent a letter to the European Commission, asking to establish a precise timetable.

The request was made to the maximum EU body, which are asked about “ambitious policies for reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by the world of transport “. We therefore need a real one time schedule which has the objective of gradually but totally eliminating all means of transport that have internal combustion engines. The EU is obviously also required to deal with the consequent total transition tolelectricity, with all that goes with it, including infrastructure and more.

Danish climate minister Dan Jørgensen said: “We have to accelerate the green transition of road transport and, as legislators, send clear signals to car manufacturers and consumers throughout the European Union ”. Meanwhile, work is also being done to prepare a new legislation capable of establishing rules even stricter limits on the issue of CO2 emissions. The new regulatory framework, which is part of a package of measures that has the great objective of reducing greenhouse gases by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

This is why the current standards on carbon dioxide emissions need to be strengthened, it was the nine EU countries we mentioned earlier that asked the Commission. And not only that, even more has been requested charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The letter also calls for changes to the legislation, to allow countries to make decisions on possible bans on the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles independently.
