Galician Health Service (Sergas) Extends Flu and Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign until January 26 with Decreased Healthcare Pressure and Incidence

The Galician Health Service (Sergas) has agreed a new extension until January 26 of the vaccination campaign against flu and covid-19which was scheduled to conclude this Friday, the 12th. Meanwhile, healthcare pressure and admission figures have decreased in recent days.

Through a statement, the Xunta recalls that it is “the second period” with which the immunization campaign against both respiratory viruses is extended. So, The self-appointment system will remain enabled so that all Galician public hospitals can receive the dose..

In this context, both people aged between 12 and 59 years with a risk condition, as well as people aged 60 and over, can request an appointment to be vaccinated at their reference hospital. As for children between 6 months and 11 years of risk, those responsible for them may request it through the Sergas Móbil application. Besides, People who only want to receive the dose against flu and not against covid can also go to their health center, by appointment. So far, a total of 802,646 Galicians have been vaccinated against the flu, with a coverage rate of 82% in people over 80 years of age. In addition, there are already more than 36,000 children under 5 years of age immunized, 51.3%.

Influenza incidence

On the other hand, Sergas has made public this Tuesday data on the incidence of flu in Galicia. The Minister of Health, Julio García Comesaña, assured this morning – in an interview on Radio Galega – that, “if not at the peak” of infections, the Community is “in a plateau area” and very close to it.

The latest figures from the Directorate General of Public Health point to a decrease in the flu positivity rate, with 27.9% – a drop of 2.28 points -.

Also healthcare pressure has decreased, with 844 people admitted with flu to Sergas hospitals – 77 less -, of which 37 are in the ICU – six less -. Regarding covid, Sergas data points to 184 hospitalized, five of them in intensive care units.
