LITERATURE

Poetry by Gérald Leblanc

Posthumous work by the great Acadian poet and writer Gérald Leblanc, New York poems recounts the enthusiastic wanderings of the writer in the heart of the American metropolis. The reissue of the collection is followed by two unpublished: a series of letters which give an overview of the author’s life in New York, and Dufferin Street Confession, a brief series of fragments depicting the creative effervescence of Moncton in the 1970s.

These texts are presented by researcher Benoit Doyon-Gosselin who, after having gathered and presented the Letters to my American friend (Éditions Prize de parole, 2018), here continues his exploration of the voluminous correspondence of Gérald Leblanc for whom New York has always represented a vibrant and immense place.

Originally from Bouctouche, Acadia, this prolific poet has published 11 collections, including Red night geography (1984), The extreme frontier (1988), Complaints from the Continent (1993, Estuaire des Terrasses Saint-Sulpice prize), In praise of chiac (1995) and Most of the time (2001).

In 1993, Gérald Leblanc won the Governor of New Brunswick’s Pascal-Poirier Prize for his body of work. He died in 2005.
