Four Alicante institutes receive the Education for Development award

Four Alicante institutes and eleven other educational centers in Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Galicia, Madrid, Navarra and Asturias have collected this Thursday Vicente Ferrer National Development Education Award 2019.

The Alicante centers awarded in Bachillerato are IES Joanot Martorell de Elche; IES Las Norias de Monforte del Cid; IES La Mola de Novelda and IES Haygón de San Vicente del Raspeig. These are some awards granted by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Aecid) to recognize educational centers, supported by public funds, that promote “a global, supportive citizenship, committed to the eradication of poverty and sustainable development “, has indicated the institution in a note.

The Minister of Education attended the event, Isabel Celaá, who has affirmed that young people “must know the world in which they live through school and develop their capacity for critical analysis in the face of inequality, poverty and exclusion”.

For her part, the director of Aecid, Aina Calvo, has praised “the important role of the educational community as a whole, teachers, students, families and others involved in education in meeting the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The award-winning centers in Primary Education are: CEIP Melquiades Hidalgo de Cabezón de Pisuerga, Valladolid and CEIP Pérez Galdós de Majadahonda, Madrid.

In Secondary: IESO Iñaki Ochoa de Olza, Pamplona; IESP Pedra da Aguia from A Ponte do Porto, A Coruña; IES Antonio Fraguas, “Forges” of Madrid; IES Pablo Picasso de Málaga, and IES Cardenal Pardo de Tavera, Zamora.
In Baccalaureate, in addition to the four Alicante institutes, they have awarded the IES Pedro Simón Abril de Alcaraz, Albacete and the IES Las Musas de Madrid.

And in adult education, Ceper Juan Ramón Jiménez de Algeciras and CEPA de Gijón have been awarded.
