Long-time football professional Donald “Reche” Caldwell was shot in his hometown Tampa / Florida. The former wide receiver, who played six years in the US NFL league for the San Diego Chargers (now Los Angeles Chargers), the New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins, turned 41.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of former Patriots player Reche Caldwell. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends,” the New England Patriots said on Twitter. Caldwell’s Florida Gators college team was also dismayed.
Deborah Caldwell had previously confirmed her son’s death to the gossip portal TMZ. The police told ESPN that there had been a murder, but did not give the victim’s name. The tragedy happened on Saturday.
